6 String Semi Hollow Body Guitar featuring a Maple body, set maple neck, 2 humbucking pickups, cherry red finish in Excellent condition.
Onyx was an importer brand from Australia, back in the 1970's and 80's, whos guitars were made in Japan and Korea. Many of their guitars were exported to Canada.
Most Onyx guitars you see are either in Canada or Australia, and most are made in Korea.
We believe that this was probably made in 1981 and exported in 1982, as by 1982 most Onyx were being made in Korea.
This is an ES 335 "Inspired" model that was made in Japan, most likely in the Chushin Factory, along with Washburn and Japanese Charvels, among others.
Similar to the other Japanese guitars, of this era, this is a pretty accurate copy of a mid 60's ES335 - most importantly the proper body shape and, here's the big one, open book Gibson Style headstock shape... been seen with other, similar era/copy guitars exported to Canada.
Featuring a set neck construction with a centre block, 2 chrome covered humbucking pickups, independent volume and tone controls (along with 3 way toggle switch).
Neck is 3 ply Maple construction, with rosewood fingerboard, a very comfortable "C" neck shape, 22 frets and 24.75" Gibson Scale length. Frets are in very good condition... they are like Gibson flat wide frets. Headstock features a ONYX inlay and "open book" shape.
Plugged in, it sounds great... especially the neck pickup.
This Consignment Guitar is in Excellent condition, with some light play wear, and comes with a hardshell 335 style archtop case.
There's that really cool Trans-Am Firechicken Sticker on the body
And there's some lacquer cracking around the neck heel - just cosmetic, not structual.
