USED Gibson 1986 SG Standard w/Tim Shaw Humbuckers Ebony w/Case
6 String solidbody electric guitar featuring an all mahogany double cutaway body fitted with a mahogany neck with a 22 fret rosewood fingerboard, 2 humbucking pickups, in very good condition with aftermarket hardshell case.
Often regarded as the "Small Guard" or "Angel Guard" SG, this beauty is 40 years old this year!! It's truly a Vintage Guitar from the 1980's...
Not to be confused with the '62 re-issue, made at the same time, but ut does share some characteristics like the Tim Shaw Alnico V Humbucking pickups.
This features an all Mahogany SG double cutaway body fitted with a 1 piece quartersawn Hondurian Mahogany neck - joined at the 18th fret with no heel angle.
The neck profile is more rounded with a 1 11/16 nut width and very comfortable to play. Headtsock features the Gibson Logo, Grover Rotomatic tuners and the classic open book headstock shape.
The frets are low and wide with a little bit of wear on the first few frets.
The body is a, then, modern SG Shape with shallow beveled cutaways and fitted with the 2 Tim Shaw Alnico V Humbucking pickups, replacing the earlier "Tarback" Super pickups... some would say a definite improvment.
The electronics have the usual controls - independent volume and tone controls for each pickup with 3 way toggle switch in an "Interesting" position that some may find hard to navigate because of it's location to the knobs. What's missing is the input jack - normally locayed on the top of the body, it's along the edge of the body, another "Modern" feature of the SG of that time.
That small or "Angel" guard is a 5 piece Black/White ply construction. Harware is a "Zamak" bridge and stop tailpiece.
This Used "Vintage" SG is a fantastic guitar. It's in Very Good condition with some play wear such as light scratching and a few parts where the finish has worn thru to the mahogany. It was finished in Nitro Lacquer. There's some oxidation on the pickup covers.
The back of the neck has some very light impressions and there's a small ding, back of the neck, near the 12th fret.
There's some lacquer coming off around the top of the headstock. The wear is seen in pictures.
Comes with an aftermarket generic Teardrop case.
