Product Description

Handwired 50 Watt All tube guitar Amplifier head, Made in the USA.

The Bray Coco has been through a few different versions and is also known as
the "Bray Alpaplex" Coco 50.
It was the amplifier that inspired the Vic Johnson 4550 Signature Amplifier (from Sammy Hagar Band)
It's part of David Bray's Plexi style of amplifiers but really geared towards the early Eddie Van Halen "Brown" Sound... the sound of Ed's old Marshall Plexi, cranked and Variac'd down.

It does it! If you watch some videos online of the Coco 50, most people are doing just that - playing EVH and getting that tone. But it's NOT just for EVH fans.
It's a great sounding cranked Plexi style amplifier that's superbly built by David Gray in Southern California.

This amplifier is a bit of a unique beast. Designed around a pair of EL34 power tubes (and 3 12AX7 pre amp tubes) it's positioned right in the world of cranked Marshall tones.
featuring a Hi and Low input with a "Bright" (Vol 1) and "Normal" (Vol 2) channels that are running in parallel - similar to Jumping channles on a '68 Marshall Plexi.
On a regular/stock Marshall, some find that the Normal channel is too dark and the Bright Channel too bright, especially if you're not runnig the amp on 10 (and that's a loud 10). A way to help this, people often mod their Marshall by taking out the bright cap on the input.
The Bray is voiced not as bright and not as dark making it far more useful, espcially at lower volumes.
It features a Master volume, allowing you to get that Plexi driven gain at more reasonable volumes.

It also features 2 features unique to this amplifier but very useful.
1) Dual-Output Levels: “Output” level controls overall output coming from the amp. “Quieter” level is made active using the included footswitch, and reduces the Output Level when activated. Use this knob to determine the distance between your Lead and Rhythm volume levels. The higher you raise the Quieter knob, the closer your RHYTHM and SOLO levels will be. Gives you a SOLO volume boost, in addition to letting you stay loud when you turn your guitar down for a clean sound.

2) Gangstar button (on the included footswitch) affects the VOLUME I setting via the included footswitch. When the GREEN footswitch LED is ON, this causes the VOLUME I setting to go instantly to 10, from whatever setting it is set at. Have it on 4 for a classic mild breakup, then step on the button and BANG, instant gain boost without a tone change distraction. Or, have it set lower for a clean sound, then hit the button for FULL drive. You can also turn VOLUME I completely down, and rely only on VOLUME II for your cleaner sound, then step on the footswitch for your drive sound. The GANGSTER™ feature is an effective way to mimmick a dual-channel amplifier without the extra knobs and tone change when switching.

This Consignment amplifier is in excellent condition and comes with the original 2 button footswitch.
Rarely seen up in these parts, the Bray is an excellent "Boutique" hand wired amplifier.
