The Epiphone Ltd. Edition ES-355 sports a comfortable, fast-action neck with a '60s SlimTaper profile. When introduced in 1958, early ES models had fatter "tree-trunk" necks, but beginning in 1959, the company began slimming the neck down to a more comfortable size. By 1960, this evolved into a design Gibson called the SlimTaper neck. Varying in thickness only about a tenth of an inch from the first fret out to the twelfth and maintaining a precisely controlled width-to-thickness ratio, the SlimTaper neck promoted playing speed while reducing player fatigue. Many guitarists consider these necks to be the the ultimate in playability. Whether you're chording down low or riffing up high, the Ltd. Epiphone's Alnico Classic pickups deliver a universe of noise-free tone
The Alnico Classic pickups on the Epiphone Ltd. Edition ES-355 employ Alnico-V magnets with enamel wire to deliver warm, even-tempered tone - and classic humbucker overdrive when you need it. Epiphone employs a painstaking double-vacuum waxing process when winding these 'buckers. This gives you quiet operation, with no microphonic hum. Before being covered, the pickup is placed into Epi's dedicated wax vacuuming system to force the wax to fully penetrate all the way to the center of the pickup. After the cover is on, the pup is given a second vacuum wax bath until the it's totally saturated. Epiphone uses only the best quality parts for its pickups like ABS plastic bobbins, 1010 cold-rolled steel pole shoes and screws, Alnico magnets, and top quality magnet wire.
